How
to Get a Mid-Hudson Library System Library Card
With a library card,
you have available for your use collections in 71 public libraries and
their branches in Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Putnam and Ulster counties.
You can borrow books, videos, CD's , DVD's or audiocassettes by visiting
any Mid-Hudson Library System
library or by requesting a title through the online
catalog, with pickup at your desired library location. A library card
also gives you 24-hour access to online databases of newspaper and magazine
articles as well as other resources via the Internet.
How to get a library
card:
If you live
within the Mid-Hudson Library System 5-county service area
If you live
outside the Mid-Hudson Library System 5-county service area
If you live within the Mid-Hudson Library System
5-county service area:
- You may go to any
Mid-Hudson Library System
library to register for a card.
- At the library,
you will be asked to fill out a Library Card Registration Form.
The form requests basic contact information which includes your mailing
address and home and work phone.
- You will also need
to show some form of identification and proof of residency such as:
- A driver's
license or photo ID
- An envelope
or postcard recently mailed to your street address (a phone bill,
electric bill, etc.).
- Card registration
requirements for children vary by library. Please call or ask your librarian
for details.
If
you live outside the Mid-Hudson Library System area:
-
If you work within
the System's service area, go to the public library nearest to your
place of employment to get a card. You will need to show proof of
area employment (a business card, letterhead, etc.) plus follow the
procedures listed above for residents. There is usually no fee, though
policies at each System library vary.
- If you neither
live nor work within the System's service area but want a card, check
with the library closest to you for their policy and fee requirements.
